カンパニー605の共同芸術監督ジョシュ・マーティンが上演するこの孤独なダンスは、身体が個別の記憶バンクを保持しているというアイデアにまつわる調査から始まったものである。筋肉組織、骨、腱、臓器はすべて、過去の出来事、行動、トラウマに関する独自の記録を保存しており、この集められた情報は、頭では簡単に共有できず、アクセスすることもできません。このプロセスは、さまざまな状態や感覚を一貫して見つけ、そこに入り、その中を移動する方法を探るものでした。思考から動きを切り離すための絶え間ない努力の中で、ダンスは身体が思い出す内側の瞬間を外部化する試みであり、検索でかき回されるものを拡大するものである。

Performed by Company 605 Co-Artistic Director Josh Martin, this solitary dance began as an investigation surrounding an idea that the body holds a separate memory bank: Muscle tissue, bones, tendons and organs all storing their own accounts of past events, actions and trauma, with this collected information not readily shared or easily accessed by the mind. The process has been an exploration of how to consistently find, enter, and move through different states and sensations. In a constant effort to disconnect movement from thought, the dance is an attempt to externalize the inner moments of body recall, and an expansion of what gets churned up in the retrieval.

ジョシュ・マーティン Josh Martin

カナダ・アルバータ州出身のジョシュ・マーティンは、現在バンクーバーに在住し、コースト・セイリッシュ族の伝統的な先祖代々の土地で活動しているダンスメーカー／パフォーマーである。都市と現代の融合に触発され、北米とヨーロッパで様々なトレーニングを受け、多くのジャンルを学びました。解釈者、共同制作者として、多くのダンスカンパニーや独立した振付家たちと仕事をしている。

自身の振付家としての活動は、カナダ国内はもとより、アメリカ、コスタリカ、日本、シンガポール、台湾、中国、ハンガリー、ドイツで発表されている。前作のソロ作品「Leftovers」は世界中で50回以上上演され、シュトゥットガルトの国際ソロタンツフェスティバルで振付部門1位を受賞するなど、数多くの賞を受賞している。ジョシュはツアー中、カナダ国内および海外で定期的にマスタークラスやワークショップの講師を務め、他のカンパニーやアーティスト、高校への委嘱作品も複数制作している。

10年以上にわたり、バンクーバーを拠点とするカンパニー605の芸術監督を務め、共同作業を通じて新作を創作・制作し、拡大するレパートリーをカナダ国内および国際的なツアーで定期的に紹介しています。舞台以外では、ダンスセンター理事会の副議長やカナダ・ダンス・アーティスト連盟の元議長を務めている。2013年バンクーバー市長芸術賞を受賞。

Originally from Alberta, Canada, Josh Martin is dance maker/performer who now lives and works in Vancouver, on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. Inspired by the merging of urban and contemporary forms, he received his diverse training across North America and Europe, studying in many genres. In his ongoing career as an interpreter and collaborator, he has worked with many dance companies and independent choreographers such as.

In his own choreographic practice, Josh’s independent work has been presented all across Canada as well as in the USA, Costa Rica, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Hungary, and throughout Germany. His previous solo work, Leftovers, has received over 50 performances around the world, and numerous awards (including 1st Prize for Choreography at the International SoloTanz Festival in Stuttgart). Josh regularly teaches masterclasses and workshops across Canada and internationally throughout his touring engagements, and has created multiple commissioned works for other companies and artists, as well as post-secondary schools and universities.

 For over 12 years, Josh has been an Artistic Co-Director of Company 605, a Vancouver-based arts organization creating and producing new works through a collaborative process, regularly touring its expanding repertoire throughout Canada and Internationally. It’s collaborations with filmmakers and new media artists have been screened at over 55 Dance on Screen Festivals across the globe. Off the stage, he has served as Vice-Chair of The Dance Centre’s Board of Directors and is a Past Chair of Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists. Josh was an emerging recipient of the Vancouver 2013 Mayor’s Arts Awards.
